Video: Workforce development program for Kenyan youth boosts careers and apparel sector

Published on July 05, 2018

USAID is enabling young women and men in Kenya to secure jobs as sewing machine operators. Kenya’s apparel sector has a shortage of 10,000 to 15,000 skilled workers, 60 percent of which are sewing machine operators. To fill this gap, support the industry's growth and provide a source of living, USAID and the American Apparel and Footwear Association created the Career Readiness Social Initiative Ltd, which has so far trained 450 students and secured full-time jobs for 266 graduates.
