Trade Facilitation and Regional Integration

At the Side Event, titled "Mainstreaming Trade Facilitation for Regional Integration", a panel of experts will discuss linkages between trade facilitation reforms and regional integration, with a special focus on the East African Community (EAC), but also covering other regional organizations. This (personal) blog post aims at providing some food for thought. It builds on an article published in the most recent UNCTAD Transport and Trade Facilitation Newsletter.

There are two main linkages between trade facilitation reforms and regional integration:

  • First, Trade Facilitation is increasingly important for intra-regional trade, competitiveness and development. Trade Facilitation should be among the priority areas for policy action and international support.
