The State of Agricultural Commodity Markets is a publication of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It attempts to clarify the role of trade in contributing to improved food security and nutrition. It also contributes to the debate on the rationale for, and approaches to, managing trade in agricultural and food products.
The publication further cautions against attempting to identify the “best” set of policy instruments for managing trade, recognizing that the publication is highly context-specific. Rather, it encourages practitioners to place more emphasis on strengthening the policy processes that guide the design and implementation of trade and related policy.
The report is a useful resource in addressing weaknesses in the governance processes of agriculture and trade policy-making.
