The Hub's Investment Analyst Elizabeth Muange sat on the judges' panel at the PivotEAST mobile technology pitching competition. Ms. Muange made determinations in the finance category.
The finalists were impressive. They had a number of viable ideas to address technological and financial constraints through the use of mobile technology, said Ms. Muange.
An initiative of m:lab East Africa, PivotEAST is East Africa’s premier mobile startups pitching competition, held annually since 2011. The event brings together the technology community, startups and investors. Startups are selected through a competitive process leading up to the event where the finalists pitch to potential investors.
This year's finance category winner was Shield Finance, which uses proprietary technology to offer employees affordable salary advances directly to their mobile phones.
Financial Services is one of the Hub's focus sectors under its Investment and Technology Adoption component.
