The large German trade show Ambiente is just around the corner – February 8 – 12 at Messe Frankfurt. The USAID East Africa Trade and Investment Hub is helping East African home décor companies prepare. This week, Margaret Bishop, an expert in textile and apparel production and quality management, will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to spend seven days with promising Tanzanian companies, including the Hub-supported home-textile producer CRACODE, who will be at Ambiente this year.
CRACODE stands for Cultural Crafts Consultants and Designs Co. The company, led by Managing Director Fuhiameni Kishimbo (photo above), employs Tanzanian artists to hand weave environmentally friendly home textile products for the export market.
The Hub supported CRACODE to attend Ambiente last year. Read: CRACODE draws visitors with its newest line of scarves and blankets. To help CRACODE capitalize on that experience and close more trade deals this year, the Hub has arranged for Ms. Bishop to provide mentoring and coaching to the home décor company. Ms. Bishop will give feedback on its proposed exhibition line and help them prepare samples for the trade show. Ms. Bishop will also teach CRACODE how to better use social media to promote their presence at the show and to better link with buyers.
While in Tanzania, Ms. Bishop will host a half-day workshop for 20 export-focused textile firms. Members of the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and promising Tanzanian designers from the Dar es Salaam area plan to participate.
