Podcast: Amb. Godec's remarks at Kenya AGOA capacity building forum

Published on November 12, 2015

On November 9, Kenya's Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development (MOIED), with support from the East Africa Trade and Investment Hub, held an African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) capacity forum  targeted at Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec spoke at the occasion alongside Cabinet Secretary of Industrialization Mr. Adan Mohamed. The Hub's Director of Trade Promotion and AGOA, Mr. Finn-Holm Olsen, kicked off an early panel discussion by introducing opportunities available under AGOA.  The Hub's Director of Investment, Ms. Kanini Mutooni, moderated a panel on financing options available for export-ready SMEs.

The Ambassador had this to say:

In 2013 alone, Kenya had over $300 million in exports to the United States under AGOA. AGOA exports from Kenya have created tens of thousands of jobs, particularly in apparel manufacturing. And AGOA has the potential to create thousands more. Recently, major apparel companies have committed to significantly increase their buying from Kenya, creating thousands of additional jobs. AGOA is bringing investment - and jobs - to Kenya.

Listen to the full speech below or read it online. The Hub will be hosting a hands on workshop on how to export under AGOA on November 18 as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week. Click here to find out more.
