The January edition includes in-depth analyses of topical policy challenges faced by these economies, while the June edition contains shorter analytical pieces.

It allows for quick highlights and analysis of latest trends which is of obvious benefit to policy makers, trade analysts and all those involved in world trade.

Global Enabling Trade Report 2016

Capture1.PNGThe Global Enabling Trade Report 2016 is a joint publication of the World Economic Forum and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation. It features the enabling trade index, which evaluates 136 economies based on their capacity to facilitate the flow of goods over borders and to their destination.

It goes beyond metrics related to border-crossing efficiency, and provides insight into other essential related components such as transportation, communications and IT infrastructure.

The report serves as a framework for meaningful public-private dialogue to ensure that governments, and the private sector work hand-in-hand to deliver trade facilitation reforms. 

Africa Agriculture Status Report 2016

Capture1.PNGAfrica Agriculture Status Report 2016 is a report of the Alliance for a Green Rev­olution in Africa (AGRA) and its partners. It highlights major trends in African agri­culture, the drivers of those trends, and the emerging challenges that Africa’s food systems are facing in the 21st century.

The report also identifies policies and programs that can support the movement of Africa’s farming systems from subsistence-oriented, towards more commercialized farming systems that can contribute to economic growth.

Additionally, the report identifies areas that enable better targeting of investment resources, as well as the necessary conditions that can propel African agricultural transformation.

It further explores how agricultural transformation can contribute to solving the reality of rural poverty, low productivity, food insecurity, malnutrition, unemployment, and lower income among the population in countries in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Doing Business 2017 - Equal Opportunity for All

Capture.PNGDoing Business 2017: Equal Opportunity for All is a publication of the World Bank. It investigates the regulations that enhance business activities and those that constrain it. Specifically, the report measures aspects of regulations that enable or prevent private sector businesses from starting, operating and expanding.

The report also highlights the large disparities between high- and low-income economies, and the barriers that women face while starting a business or getting a job compared to men. It also discusses the role that may be played by business regulatory reforms in the global goal to reduce income inequality.

It is useful resource in analyzing economic outcome, and identifying what reforms in business regulations have worked, where and why.

Trade and Development Report 2016

Capture.PNGTrade and Development Report 2016: Structural Transformation for Inclusive and Sustained Growth is a publication of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). It reviews the recent trends in the global economy, and focuses on the policies needed to foster structural transformation.

The report also observes that global economic growth is weak, growing at a rate below 2.5 per cent, and global trade has slowed down dramatically to around 1.5 per cent in 2015 and 2016, compared to 7 per cent before the crisis.

It also identifies some of the critical issues that need to be addressed in order to set in place structural transformation processes.Generally, the report emphasizes on the need for countries to adjust their policy strategies in order to advance structural transformation.

The World Trade Report 2016

Capture.PNGThe World Trade Report 2016 is a publication of the World Trade Organization (WTO). It examines the participation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in international trade. In particular, it explains how the international trade landscape is changing for SMEs, as well as, where new opportunities are opening up and old challenges remain.

The report also details what the multilateral trading system does, and can do to encourage more widespread, and inclusive SME participation in global markets.

It is a useful resource in enhancing deeper understanding of trends in trade, trade policy issues and the multilateral trading system.

Trade Africa Annual Report 2016

It highlights the progress made by Trade Africa is spurring investment and driving greater use of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). It also outlines the U.S. Government’s programs that supports the achievements made this far, as well as the strategies in place to expand and accelerate more results and impact.

The report further discusses how Trade Africa is committed to fulfilling the vision of unleashing Africa’s economic growth potential, and details the importance of expanding trade with and within Africa.

Kenya Economic Report 2016

Kenya_Economic_Report.PNGKenya Economic Report 2016 is a publication of Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA). It gives an analysis of Kenya’s recent macroeconomic performance, governance and social-economic performance. While the economy has recorded improved macroeconomic stability, the report underscores the need for fiscal prudence, sustained investment in infrastructure, improved business environment and stability.

The report also discusses key underlying policy issues in agriculture, extractives sector, tourism, manufacturing, micro and small enterprises, trade, financial services, building and construction, as well as information and communication technology. Generally, the report focuses on decentralization, and advocates for building on the gains already made at the county level, such as functional allocation of resources among others.
