On Monday, February 22 the Hub and the Inter-Regional Economic Network (IREN) will host an online Twitter chat on youth in agriculture in East Africa. This event precedes the Young Innovators in Agribusiness competition being held in Arusha, Tanzania February 24-27. The Hub and its partners are supporting youth from across the region to develop their agri-businesses.
Youth comprise the largest proportion of the population across East Africa, and they have the highest unemployment rate relative to other age groups.
The formal sectors of employment where most graduates seek employment cannot absorb the large number of graduates, estimated to be between 10 to 12 million young persons per year, resulting in a large number of educated yet unemployed youth - AfDB report
