As part of the the President's Feed the Future Initiative, the EA Trade Hub has developed structured tools to help integrate small businesses into the formal market as well as to facilitate trade and enhance food security in the region. The EA Trade Hub and regional partner Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) have developed a comprehensive training program and manual on to help farmers, traders, and buyers improve their businesses. The EA Trade Hub has also been working with regional bodies such as the East Africa Community (EAC) to create a uniform food and nutrition policy and have recently passed harmonized standards for 22 staple foods. Regional integration of standards and policies make it easier to shift food from areas that have a surplus to those with shortages, thus improving food security in vulnerable areas.
