Promoting opportunities in the export market for fashion designers

Published on October 14, 2016

As part of the Hub’s AGOA information dissemination work the Hub trained 50 designers on how to engage with buyers at a recent seminar organized by the Association of Fashion Designers of Kenya and hosted by the British Council in Nairobi, Kenya. The Hub’s Value Chain Development Specialist and Hub’s Fashion Accessories and Home decor Consultant delivered a presentation on how designers can present their concepts effectively to buyers, what are the current fashion trends and how the designers can participate in Hub supported activities. The Hub builds the capacity of fashion designers to promote greater uptake of AGOA export opportunities.

“The training was very inspirational and beneficial to us designers. We got to understand the buyers’ world and what is involved in the whole system. We are grateful for the information. It is very important for us to get to understand the spirit behind the trade shows we participate in,” said Hellen Auma Onyango, Programs Coordinator Association of Fashion Designers of Kenya.

The participants were surprised at the range of support available for the sector, including participation in business linkage events, buyer missions and trade shows.
