The Hub’s Trade Promotion and AGOA Director, Finn Holm-Olsen, presented at the recent Destination Africa show in Cairo, Egypt. His panel focused on the sustainable textiles industry and sourcing opportunities in East Africa. The Destination Africa event was dedicated to creating business linkages between African apparel exporters and buyers. The Hub sponsored Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) to maintain a booth and speak to visitors about the importance of social compliance.
Destination Africa provided the opportunity for the Hub to address three of its main work activities, namely 1) sensitizing the business community to AGOA opportunities, 2) creating trade linkages, and 3) addressing firm-level challenges in meeting buyer demands.
For a first-time event, Destination Africa was well attended with strong speakers and buyers, including many U.S. buyers who are looking for sourcing opportunities in East Africa, such as U.S. company-Dick’s Sporting Goods.

“I really can’t underscore enough the importance of the long-term extension of AGOA,” said Finn Holm-Olsen, director of trade promotion and AGOA at USAID’s East Africa Trade and Investment Hub. “Investors really have that certainty that they can get a return on their investment.”
