COMESA region records growth in FDI inflows

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa recorded a 3.6 per cent growth in foreign direct investment in 2017, even as inflows across Africa dropped. The Comesa Investment Trend 2018 report shows that FDI to the region increased from $18.6 billion in 2016 to $19.3 billion in 2017. This accounted for about 46 per cent of Africa’s FDI inflows. In contrast, the continent recorded a 21.4 per cent decline in FDI inflows, from $53.2 billion in 2016 to $41.8 billion in 2017, a trend attributed to weakening commodity price. Read more.
