Global garment manufacturing company TAL Apparel operates 11 factories across Asia, producing quality apparel for some of the world’s top brands and retailers. They have now come to East Africa. Last week, they produced their first dress shirt in Ethiopia’s new Hawassa Industrial Park.
Before committing to Ethiopia and the Hawassa Industrial Park, TAL Apparel conducted a feasibility study for setting up garment manufacturing operations in East Africa and sought the Hub’s advice. The Hub’s investment and trade promotion team provided an overview on the competitiveness of each country in the East African region and provided insight on how the region is evolving. They also introduced them to strong partners in Ethiopia and the region.
Hawassa Industrial Park is a new “best-in-class” apparel-manufacturing zone in southern Ethiopia. Global apparel company PVH is spearheading the effort alongside the Ethiopian government, suppliers, and donor groups. PVH’s ambition is “to create a vertical scalable and sustainable venture.”
