From August 13 -16, the Hub sponsored 11 Eastern Africa apparel, fashion accessories  and footwear companies exhibited at Sourcing MAGIC  in Las Vegas, Nevada, providing them with the opportunity to meet U.S buyers and network with producers. There was a lot of interest from the U.S buyers looking to source from the eastern Africa region.

The exhibitors were drawn from Madagascar, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Kenya and their products ranged from children’s clothing, leather bags, sandals, boots, raffia bags, hats, tee shirts, denim jeans, uniforms and work wear. The enterprises took advantage of the exposure provided by the trade expo to market their products and establish direct linkages with  U.S buyers.

The support of the Hub that allows a company like mine to exhibit at this show is really essential. Without this we would really battle to get exposure into the USA market. The quality of buyers attending the show has been superb and we have at least 10 solid opportunities to pursue,” said Eugene Havemann, Madagascar Garments.

It also contributes to the Hub’s objective of facilitating a 40 percent increase in exports from the East Africa region to the US under AGOA.

I’ve had more fun and found more opportunities in the East African booths than I have in the entire past two days at Sourcing at Magic,” said  Gary Grisby, VP and GM Retail Apparel, Encompass
