Technology : Wa-Jiko Solar Drier

Wa-Jiko is a solar powered drier used for drying and storing perishable foods like fruits and vegetables in controlled temperatures. The gadget is connected to a temperature regulator which adjusts temperatures depending on the nature and type of fruits and vegetables stored. It is also connected to a mobile app that enables remote monitoring and regulation. It comprises of two chambers; one for drying and the other for storage as well as an additional cabinet for raw materials. The device is available in 3 sizes: large, medium and small. The technology ensures availability of fruits and vegetables all year round.

Impact : Produced in 2015, it was tested for 6 months amongst 4 families and one university laboratory. The families were able to store and consume fruits and vegetables for a longer time. Consequently, there was availability of fruits and vegetables all year round.
