New on our Knowledge Center: 2016 Biennial Report on the Implementation of the African Growth and Opportunity Act

Published on July 15, 2016

Capture.PNGThe 2016 Biennial Report on the Implementation of the African Growth and Opportunity Act is a publication by the Office of the United States Trade Representative. It provides a description of the status of trade and investment between the United States and sub-Saharan Africa, and changes in country eligibility for AGOA benefits. The report also gives an analysis of country compliance with the AGOA eligibility criteria, an overview of regional integration efforts in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as a summary of U.S. trade capacity building efforts.

As required by section 110 of the Trade Preferences Extension Act of 2015 (“the Act”), the production of this report fulfills the statutory requirements in the Act to report to Congress regarding the out of cycle AGOA country eligibility reviews, and on potential trade agreements.

The report highlights the role played by the three USAID Trade and Investment Hubs in implementing new and innovative initiatives to reduce bottlenecks along major trade corridors, as well as boost exports through the formation of sustainable business associations with international membership.
