Hub to hold workshop on WTO TBT and SPS transparency requirements

From March 21-22, the East Africa Trade and Investment Hub, in partnership with the Standards Alliance and in collaboration with the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat, will convene a public-private sector workshop on World Trade Organization (WTO) transparency requirements and procedures on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and Sanitary and Phyto-sanitary measures (SPS).

The objectives of the workshop are:

  • To facilitate training of stakeholders from public and private sectors on the WTO TBT and SPS Agreements and existing EAC legal frameworks on TBT and SPS
  • To facilitate sharing of experiences and best practices by EAC Partners States on the operation of TBT and SPS national enquiry points and notification authorities
  • To agree on measures to improve coordination of regulatory bodies, notification process and notification to the stakeholders
  • To enhance understanding of good regulatory practices
