On September 6, the Hub signed an MoU with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Tanzania. The MoU outlines a collaboration to increase awareness among Tanzanian businesses of trade opportunities with the United States, particularly through the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which allows eligible African producers the opportunity to export thousands of types of goods, including apparel, to the U.S. without paying duties.
The Hub and AmCham Tanzania immediately followed their formal partnership with a business breakfast workshop featuring an AGOA 101 discussion led by the Hub’s Director of Trade Promotion and AGOA. The workshop, attended by more than 40 business people, aimed to demystify AGOA and provide participants with the practical tools needed to export to the U.S.
“This workshop was timely given the recent completion of the Tanzania National AGOA Strategy, and a renewed desire on the part of Tanzania's government and private sector to take greater advantage of the opportunities afforded by AGOA, said Hub Trade Promotion and AGOA Director Finn Holm-Olsen.
