Airtel Uganda launches platform to support farmers

The Service will provide free public service information on demand to farmers possessing mobile phones in five local languages and also in English.

The 1-6-1 Service is provided in partnership with HNI, a global development organization dedicated to technology in the developing world. The 1-6-1 services will be more potential to farmers involved in the growing of five selected crops such Maize Beans, Banana Irish potatoes and Rice. The ICT platform will give farmers information related to harvesting land selection and marketing of the produces across the country.

 Commenting during the Launch of the ICT platform at the telecoms head office in Kampala the acting commissioner Extension and Services in the Ministry of Agriculture Zakaya  Muyaka  said the new platform will help Government to offer quality Agricultural Extension services to their farmers  across the country since Government is still challenged with inadequate staff in the Directorate of Agricultural Extension services.
